Lightning Strike

It's fun to draw parallels between manmade phenomena and Mother Nature. When I worked for Walt Disney Feature Animation and lived in Orlando, Florida, I came across the imagery of a photographer who went by the handle of "Lightning Stalker." He had the coolest nighttime photography of cloud-to-ground lightning strikes courtesy of Florida's abundant summer afternoon storms. I blown away by his stunning compositions, when just a fraction of a second could make all of the difference visually. 

Fortunately, nighttime in the city is much more forgiving, with plenty of opportunities to celebrate beautiful light and color. I caught this moment in midtown Manhattan, looking into Times Square during a driving rain. The long, dramatic reflections immediately drew my attention, and evoked some of the same magic as a summertime thunderstorm.
