I caught this moment along 9th Avenue in Lower Manhattan.

When I want to walk uptown or downtown quickly in Manhattan, I'll often head over to this less-traveled avenue. It's far easier than jostling through the tourist traffic around the theater district and Times Square.

I mean, don't get me wrong: I'm a tourist when I visit New York City, although I always endeavor not to stop in the middle of the sidewalk and stare upwards vacantly. And sometimes I pat myself on the back when a Midwestern tourist asks me for directions on the street.

But in addition to just being an easier route to walk, I like the independent eateries, multicolored awnings, and old architecture along 9th Avenue. This subject caught my eye because of the great shapes and colors throughout, punctuated by that brilliant green umbrella.
